The Kenai River in Alaska produces more Rainbow
Trout in the 12 to 15 pound range than anywhere in the world.
Rainbow Trout season opens June 11 to April 30. Trout bite most
frequently in June, August, September and October but we fish them
all year. The first 17 miles of the Kenai River is in the Kenai
National Wildlife Refuge and is a drift only area. The lower Skilak
Lake where the Kenai flows out, is another great area that produces
world class trout fishing because this area is filled with spawning
salmon, laying eggs everywhere, leaving trout with an endless supply
of food.
Rainbow Trout are a native breed (there are no stocked trout in the
Kenai River in Alaska) we enforce a policy of catch and release on
all Rainbow Trout. Feel free to take as many photos as you can
before we slip these majestic fish back into their home waters.
